About Us/Nosotros
Xóchitl Fernández and Rogelio Agrasánchez Jr. founded TRES PIEDRAS PUBLISHERS at the end of 2016. We had previous experience in publishing. From 1997 to 2013, we released several books through our main cultural enterprise, the Agrasánchez Film Archive. A few of them were co-editions with Mexican institutions like the Film Library of the National University of Mexico; the University of Guadalajara, and IMCINE. Rogelio is the author of eleven published books; some of them have been issued by our Archive, while others were put out by other publishing houses.
TRES PIEDRAS is a binational and bilingual undertaking. Our publishing house belongs both in Mexico and in the United States. We were born and raised in Mexico, and have been established in Texas for four decades. Hence, we are mainly interested in promoting works which subjects concern both countries.
TRES PIEDRAS PUBLISHERS is an independent venture. Our mission is to give our readers the opportunity to discover, learn, and enjoy. We focus in the historiography of Mexican cinema. We are particularly interested in relation between Hollywood and the Mexican film industry in the XX Century, as well as the US market for Mexican movies in that period. Studying the legacy of Mexican film pioneers with binational careers is one of our priorities. Besides, we focus on visual and decorative arts applied in Mexican cinema and its publicity. Our works are based on thorough, original research. We do not issue film criticism books.
With our readers always in mind, we aim to publish printed books that are not only informative and reliable, but also appealing. This, by means of professional design, careful editing, and painstaking iconographic research. Our digital publications are in-house designed and produced.
Our medium-term goal is to publish a printed book and at least three electronic publications a year. The latter will be part of our imprint TEXTOS QUID, a series of illustrated monographs.
For now, our books and monographs will be released in the language they were originally written, whether in English or in Spanish. We plan to issue bilingual works in the future.
TRES PIEDRAS also publishes books by new writers in the field of literature, mainly works with an autobiographical tinge, and binational stories.
WHY TRES PIEDRAS?
We wanted a name that had some meaning on both sides of the border and, at the same time, representative of our editorial mission. We found Tres Piedras.
There is a place in Oklahoma, bearing the name Tres Piedras. According to a 19th Century legend, there is a hidden treasure at that site, marked by three rocks. Countless adventurers and treasure hunters have scouted and dug all around for the 700 gold ingots supposedly buried there. No doubt, all of them have had an unforgettable experience.
In the same way, writing a literary text or doing historical research means hunting, inquiring, and rummaging in order to have the necessary –and reliable- material to write a valuable, and engaging, work. Researching is much like hunting for treasures. For readers, a book can also be a treasure-hunting adventure that will be rewarded with joy and inspiration.
Tres piedras has a meaning in Mexico and other Latin American countries: estar tres piedras means being splendid, beautiful, delicious, good. Our goal as publishers is that our books will be absolutely tres piedras.
